Asymmetric Beams - 280 ASB 136

An asymmetric steel beam is a structural support where the top and bottom horizontal flanges are different sizes. Usually, the bottom flange is made wider than the top flange to support precast concrete floor slabs or metal decking directly. This clever design allows the concrete floor to sit within the depth of the steel beam rather than on top of it. By tucking the floor inside the beam, engineers can significantly reduce the overall height of a building's floors, creating more headroom and saving valuable construction space.
